Memorial Day

My family started a tradition (I blame this on my brother E) to buzz the guys hair every Memorial Day. We've lived out of state for several years and never really participated in this one until last year. I never thought I could look forward to a silly hair cut soooo much. My 12 year old son has been growing his hair out for months. It might not have been too bad except he refused to ever let me comb it or style it with gel or something. Instead, he would wash it, comb it straight forward, then shake his head a little.

I would have to say that he looks a little different with a shaved head, but it is much better than his previous fashion statement. Hallelujah for traditions!

Now Look What I've Started!

It's funny how home improvement projects are never ending. Now that we've finished the living room, I'm ready to do the kitchen, entry way, and stair case. DH is feeling the same way. He's already begun patching knicks and holes. Our home is only 3 1/2 years old and it amazes me how much damage 5 kids can do in such a short time. It doesn't help that the builder used staples to attach the rounded corners instead of screws. The corners are pulling up and creating cracks along the walls.

Any decorating help would be much appreciated. We have a lot of wall space! "Sweet Escape" maybe you could give me tips on the table runner idea that looked so nice in your last home?

Last week I had the idea to reward B for going potty in the toilet (he's getting lazy and the laundry is mounting). I got him a chart from WalMart and an 89 cent wooden car. When he filled up his chart with stickers, he could paint his car. I was so pleased at how well this worked. He did sooo much better this week. Here's a picture of him and Boo painting the car.

It's Done!

The living room is finished. This was quite an undertaking (demolition, sheetrocking, mudding, taping, texturing, light fixture installation, flooring, window treatments, painting, and decorating). My husband is amazing!!! Wahooooo!

JUST A FEW THINGS LEFT TO DO - we set up the new TV and stand anyway. I got curtains up as well. We just have to do baseboards, find some cute tie-backs, move the piano into our little nook, and hang pictures!

DH is amazing! He has really been working hard to get this all finished and has done such a nice job. He even installed child locks on our new TV stand so our one year old keeps his little paws off! Love it! BTW - the one year old has already toppled the plant on the left and cracked the ceramic pot.

Girls Night In!

Last Friday, DH and the boys went on a Father/Son campout, so Boo and I had “Girls Night In.” We rented movies, ate ice-cream, and gave each other pedicures. We had loads of fun!

10 Things I Learned This Week

1) Although I am theoretically against President Bush’s Economic Stimulus Payment, I am having NO difficulty spending it.
2) Liddiard’s, our neighborhood furniture store, will not BARGAIN with you. What happened to the good old days when you could do business without getting the "manager" involved. Are we in Kindergarten?
3) Don’t ask me to do anything, I will probably say “yes” and I’m already drowning.
4) If I don’t write it down, I won’t remember it.
5) If I do write it down, there are no guarantees that I will actually remember to look at my “to do” list.
6) Wheezing occurs when airways in the lungs become swollen and filled with mucous from viruses or allergens. This condition can cause damage to the lung if left untreated.
7) It only takes approximately 6 or 7 minutes to get to the ER from our house.
8) PineSol and a scrubby brush can get SpaghettiO sauce off cement.
9) It doesn't matter how many trips to WalMart I have made this week, I will still forget to buy dish soap.
10) Desultory is an adjective meaning: Jumping from one thing to another; rambling.

This post, although desultory in nature, is an attempt to make light and laugh (just a little) at my week. Otherwise I might cry (just a little).
